Picture games with optional speech and Calm mode
Updated October 2, 2026 · A practical guide for caregivers
Share a picture game with speech on or off. The child can tap, point, gesture, use their AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) device, or simply watch. They never need to say or repeat a phrase to make the game work.
Start with Rocket, then follow their choice
The link above opens Rocket Launch. Tap the pictured rocket to launch it, or explore a phrase button together. When the child wants something different, open Games to choose another game. Rocket Launch, Star Chase and Moon Landing are free in the browser without an account.
There is no required number of turns. A favorite picture, a repeated tap, a pause or an ending can be the whole shared moment.
Find Speech and Calm mode
Open Grown-ups below the play area. The two sound and motion buttons show their current state: Speech on or Speech off, and Calm mode on or Calm mode off.
Preferences are saved on this device. Opening Rocket Launch does not guarantee that speech is on, so check the labels before play and choose a comfortable device volume.
Speech on: the game models phrases aloud. Tap it to choose Speech off; the pictures and actions still work. Speech off alone does not turn Calm mode on.
To choose quieter play, tap the button if it reads Calm mode off. It then reads Calm mode on: speech is off and motion is reduced. Tap it again to leave Calm mode; speech stays off. To switch speech on, tap Speech off. This also leaves Calm mode.
Make room for quiet, stopping and rest
Too loud! is available in the play controls. It turns speech off and Calm mode on without speaking one more phrase first. You can use it without opening Grown-ups.
Stop! interrupts the current play action. It is not the saved resting state. In Rocket Launch, the child can choose another tap when ready.
All done! puts the game into a resting state. In Rocket Launch, tapping the resting rocket does not restart it. Choose Play again when the child wants to return. There is no need to finish a round before taking a break.
One small shared-play example
Open Rocket Launch and choose Calm mode together. The child points to the rocket; you can tap it for them or let them tap. You might say “Ready, set, go!” if that fits the moment, then wait. If they choose All done!, let the rocket rest. No question, correction or spoken response is needed.
Follow their pointing, AAC, movement or words. Speech is one option for sharing the moment, not a condition for playing.
Keep the next step simple
Stay with Rocket, choose another free game from Games, or stop. The separate iPhone and iPad app has optional Full Access for additional games; an App Store purchase does not unlock more browser games.
ReadySetSay does not record the child’s voice or score speech. Saved play and preferences stay on the device; they do not measure language development.
This is shared play, not speech therapy or a replacement for a qualified professional’s guidance.
Read the shared-play guide for more ways to follow the child’s lead, or use the Rocket quickstart.
